Bungee Jumping

Overview

Bungee jumping in Uttarakhand is one of the most thrilling adventure sports in India, attracting adrenaline seekers from across the globe. In this extreme activity, participants leap from a significant height while securely attached to an elastic cord, experiencing a breathtaking free fall followed by a recoil bounce.

The roots of bungee jumping can be traced back to the ancient “land diving” rituals of Pentecost Island, where brave divers leaped from wooden towers with vines tied to their ankles. In modern times, commercial bungee jumping began in the 1970s in New Zealand, and today, Uttarakhand proudly hosts some of the safest and most exciting jump sites in Asia, following Australian and New Zealand safety standards that are now part of India’s official guidelines.

With jumps conducted from specially designed platforms—often as high as 272 feet (83 meters)—the sport offers panoramic views of mountains, rivers, and valleys, making it both a visual and adrenaline-filled feast. The minimum age is 12 years, and participants must weigh between 40 kg to 110 kg.

Preparation & Safety Tips for Bungee Jumping

Safety is the top priority in bungee jumping, and in Uttarakhand, operators strictly follow international standards to ensure a secure and exhilarating experience. Before the jump, trained professionals conduct:

  • Detailed Briefing: Learn about the jumping posture, cord mechanics, and landing procedures.

  • Harness & Gear Fitting: A full-body harness and ankle attachments are secured and double-checked.

  • Equipment Inspection: All bungee cords, harnesses, and platforms are tested regularly.

  • Medical Restrictions: Participants with heart issues, high blood pressure, recent fractures, neurological disorders, asthma, epilepsy, pregnancy, or spinal injuries are advised not to jump.

  • Mental Readiness: Keep calm, trust your instructors, and enjoy the moment for a safe and memorable jump.

Pro Safety Tip: Wear comfortable clothing, avoid heavy meals before the jump, and remove all loose accessories like jewelry or glasses.
